Have your say on Day Opportunities and Respite services for those with a Disability and Autism

Warwickshire County Council are reviewing both the Day Opportunities services and the Respite and Short Break services available for those with a disability and/or autism, to find out if they are meeting the needs of those that are using them and their relatives and carers.

The Day Opportunities services are provided to adults aged over 18 with a disability and/or autism. The aim of these services is to enable people to access a wide range of community activities and resources in order to live a full and active life.

The Respite and Short breaks services are available for young people aged 16-17 and adults with a disability and/or autism, to enable carers to take a break. This support can be carried out in a variety of settings:

  • Overnight residential respite service
  • Overnight community short break service, as an alternative to residential respite, which can include overnight stays in the individual’s own home or stays away such as a holiday cottage
  • Community short breaks, which can be whole or part day activities that suit individual needs

As part of the review, the Council is seeking the views of people that use these services, their families and carers, as well as the wider public who wish to contribute their thoughts on how well services are working.

People can respond to the surveys until 3rd March 2019 by completing the online surveys at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/ask.

Warwickshire County Councillor Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing said:

“It is very important that we support young people and adults with disabilities and autism in Warwickshire. We work with numerous partners and providers to offer day opportunities and respite and short break opportunities, and it is vital that these are meeting the needs of young people, adults and their families.

“To carry on doing this, we need to hear from those impacted by these services, as their views must be central to any changes that are made. I urge anyone who has an interest in these services to take part in this survey.”
